Community Engagement
Every member of our community has something to contribute.
Community engagement is at the heart of what we are doing here at Pennard Community Council. We have a number of proactive projects are are focussed on. These are detailed below.
VocalEyes
In 2017 the council began using the Vocaleyes platform to improve our community engagement. In 2018, the council resolved to award up to £5000 in that financial year to fund ideas placed onto the platform by residents and supported by the community. This placed Pennard as the first Community Council in Wales to be undertaking participatory budgeting in this way. This project has brought significant improvements to the community including:
- Litter picking equipment available at The Beaufort in Kittle, The Muddy Mailroom and Pennard Stores in Southgate for anyone to borrow and take on a walk or use for a designated litter pick event.
- We installed a drinking fountain situated at the cliffs outside the public toilets.
- New fencing was erected to secure the school from the new community garden behind the community hall.
- We secured a grant to carry out a feasibility study for a new pavilion/community hub on the playing field.
This year (2022) we have a total of £10,000 available to fund youth and environmental projects receiving support on the Vocaleyes platform. Please register if you haven’t already, to suggest an idea for positive change and support the other ideas you’d like to see become a reality in Pennard.
Pafiliwn Pennard
Over the summer Down to Earth conducted some face to face and online consultation on our behalf to look at what the Community wanted as a replacement to the Pavilion in the Park which after 50 years is starting to deteriorate. This infographic shows the results.
Youth Voice in Action (YVA)
YVA is a change maker programme giving a voice to 11-19 year olds.
YVA runs across the Gower in Pennard, Bishopston, West Cross, Mayals, Oystermouth Newton, Fairwood and Gower. The mission of the programme is to connect young people to suggest ideas and take action to improve their community, teach democracy and encourage citizenship and inclusion.
